December 1, 2018 – Rockville, MD – World Class Premier Elite (WCPE) is excited to announce that they are joining the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) as a league member for the 2019 Spring Season. Based in Montgomery County, MD, WCPE will begin play in the Mid Atlantic Conference and host its UPSL home games at Montgomery Blair High School (51 University Blvd E, Silver Spring, MD 20901). World Class Premier was established in 2016 and the First Team is currently in the midst of a US Open Cup run, winning 3 games in the Qualifying Round and waiting to see if there will be a fourth Qualifying Round game or if the team will be placed in the US Open Cup proper.  Kokou Assigbe will continue as the Head Coach of the WCPE team. When asked what it meant for the WCPE team to join the UPSL, Assigbe said that "for World Class to join the UPSL it is a big opportunity for not only the senior players but for the youth players as well. We've made it in to the semi-professional arena and now we can compete with some of the best teams in the nation to really show that we have the talent and show that we have guys that have the ability to play professionally whether it's with us or at a higher level". A new league brings new challenges and Assigbe knows there is work to be done. With the league starting in February, he knows he needs to "get the guys ready. We have a couple of months to get the guys ready. There will be a lot of fitness and we'll hold a tryout to get the best possible players we can". There is a sense of urgency to get going as he and the team know there is only a few months until the season kicks off. As Daniel Ankrah (current WCPE player) stated, "it's [the UPSL] not going to be a walk in the park. I like that fact that with our team and club if you're not performing, you won't play". The players in attendance were excited about the opportunity to join the UPSL and about the prospect of playing professional soccer. While the team is semi-professional, the players all have other jobs, responsibilities, and families. Trey Cooper [current WCPE player] reiterated this: "Whatever our life situation is, I think it's pretty cool to do it with a great group of guys. Knowing that we all have our daily responsibilities and families, it's good to know that we all put in the sacrifice and now we are able to achieve our goal of playing at a higher level". The players also wanted to show the league and country that there are great players in this area; not only for themselves, but for the younger players who will eventually graduate to the First Team. Idrissa Sesay [current WCPE player] and Ankrah both shared the sentiment that paving a way for players in this area to have a team to look up to, aspire to be, and eventually play on is a big motivating factor in why they continue to play. The team will hold tryouts on December 21st. More details about the tryout will be shared from WCPE's various social media channels.
